Phone call after phone call—with topics like death, depression, anxiety, fear, broken relationships, health crises, financial despair, and family drama, and I could go on and on. As a counselor, I have come to understand that rightly diving into the Word of God is truly therapy for ‘right’ thinking. ‘Right’ thinking transforms our actions, reactions, deeds, and words.
This process entails not only reading the Word of God but also understanding and applying it in a manner that influences how you perceive yourself, your life, others, and God.
The truth is that you don't live based on what is true, but on what you believe is true, and this is where transformation or distortion begins.
As believers, we must be on guard against imbalanced truths. Imbalanced or half-truths are dangerous and can be as damaging as outright lies. The enemy often twists the Word of God not by changing the words but by removing the balance, context, and intention of God’s heart.
Imbalanced or half-truths can lead to anxiety, spiritual frustration, emotional instability, and misplaced guilt and pride.
In counseling, my role goes beyond giving more scripture; it is divine guidance to help restore alignment. The goal is not just to know scripture but to align the thinking with Christ's, and interpret life through His truth, and heal distorted beliefs at their root.
Rightly dividing God’s Word means reframing the mind. This process helps you see and experience the full counsel of God as you begin to understand the context and discern His character, not just His promises. God’s truth produces peace, not pressure, because His Word was never meant to condemn us into silence, confuse us into paralysis, or pressure us into performance.
The transformative shift lies in understanding that God's Word was given to renew our minds, anchor our identity, and guide our decisions. Seeking the Lord on how we should think and act is where healing begins and where clarity and stability return.
Today, many are trying to fit the Bible into their lives, but it was meant to reshape our lives. This reshaping can be uncomfortable as it challenges old beliefs, emotional patterns, and survival thinking.
In Christ-based counseling, we focus on ‘The Process of Being Made Whole,’ which comprises six foundational constituents that must be grasped to initiate the journey toward wholeness. Balanced biblical insight, right thinking means that truth must be whole to make you whole.
