Romans 12:19 – “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, ‘Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.’”

When someone wrongs us or hurts someone we love, our first instinct is often to seek revenge; that feeling comes on quickly. Anger bubbles up, and our minds start to replay the moment repeatedly. So, what should we do with our anger? How should we address the wrongdoing? What can we do with our hurt?

Romans 12:19 gently but firmly reminds us of what we are to do. We are to leave it to the Lord.

Let's be completely honest: many of us have tried to "help God out" by taking matters into our own hands, and I know I've done this more times than I'd like to admit. However, here’s some freeing news and a crucial reminder that I need for my own heart as well: God does not need our help.

“SomeTimes” silence is the best answer when we have been hurt, wronged, or opposed.

“SomeTimes” turning away or walking away is the path we need to take.

“SomeTimes” we must restrain ourselves and allow God to fulfill His Word.

We should not overlook righteousness or the wrongs that have been committed; instead, we are always called to uphold truth, holiness, and what is right, ensuring that our hearts and motives align with God’s Word.  However, it’s important to recognize the difference between standing for righteousness and seeking revenge.

It may seem at times that people get away with hurting, using, or abusing others. It can feel like injustice goes unnoticed. But here is more amazing news:  God means what He said.

He will avenge His people.

No action, thought, word, or deed escapes the attention of our God. Nothing slips past His sight, and nothing is overlooked by His justice. His Word assures us that He fights for His people while providing comfort and strength to those with wounded hearts.

“SomeTimes” we simply have to be still in His presence and give Him the pain, the anger, and all that comes with being hurt. But at all times, God remains a God of perfect justice.  And because He is just, we can release the burden of retaliation and rest in the peace of knowing that He will handle what we cannot.

“SomeTimes” the most powerful thing we can do is trust God enough to step aside and let Him be God
